Compress Ball
Herb compression is an aromatherapy method of Thai Traditional Medicine. In case of local pain such as wrist, ankle and muscle pain, especially old men, in winter season or cold weather, the pain will become more severe. Herb compress should be used together with Thai massage. Mostly herb compress is used after doing massage.
The treatment efficiency of herb compress is from heat of hot herb compress absorbing to inner skin of the body. Heat form hot herb compress affects the treatment. It helps to reduce swelling and symptoms from inflamed muscles, ligaments and joints. After compressing 24-28 hours, the blood circulation is in creased.
Herbs used in compress may have difference formula. Generally, main herbs or ingredients are similar. Most herb ingredients have property to relieve sharp pain from sprain and contusion, to relieve tension of ligaments when touching hot compress. Herb Compression
Soak 2 compresses in hot water or boiling water 1-2 minutes to evaporate its essential oil (in case of the first use of dry herb). Take them up from water and them steam 2 compresses in the steam pot 5-20 minutes. Apply hot compress to patient feeling pains and fatigues by switching use of these two compresses.
Storage
1. Dry the compress in the air. Keeping the compress in refrigerator can longer its use 3-5 days.
2. If the compress is dry, sprinkle water to it before use.
3. If the used compress is mot yellow or light yellow color, its quality is low and devoid of efficiency.
4. If herb becomes putrid, do not use it.
Cautions
1. Do not apply the over heated compress especially at the sensitive skin, bone line or parts have had wound before. Should support the compress with towel or apply the warm compress.
2. Take special care to the patient with diabetes and paralysis, children and old men. Because their response is slow.
3. Do not apply herb compress in case of inflammation (pain, swell, red and hot) during the period of the first 24 hours because it may cause more swelling and bleeding.
4. The most importance is not to take a bath immediately after herb compressing. Because water will wash and clean the herb from the body skin.
Compressing Procedure
It should have someone to help you when compressing. Earthen pot or steam pot is required. Fill a half of pot with water and them place it on the stove. Boil the water in the pot until appear the steam. Apply 2 compresses, put one compress at the pot opening with hot steam but other one place on a plate supported.
1. Arrange laying position of patient properly, such as laying supine, laying prone, and laying on a plate supported. reght side, depending on position to be compressed.
2. When the compress located at the pot opening is hot, take the compress out from pot opening by hand and replace with the other compress. Test hot compress by touching at arm. If the compress is too hot, use palm of other side to touch the compress and apply that palm to compress parts required compressing. The heat will transfer from the palm to the patient and the patient will not feel too hot. Repeat this process many times until the compress cool down and them apply the compress directly to the patient.
3. Direct application of the compress in the first step above should be done quickly. Do not place the compress on the patient skin for long time because the compress is too hot and the patient cannot stand it. Should apply the compress by touching the skin quickly and then move it to the other part of muscles required compressing.
4. When the compress is cooled down, it can be applied and compressed for longer. Change the other one compress and repeat the compress as the procedure said above. Regular apply the compress 15-20 minutes for one time of compression. If the pain from sprain still remain you can apply the compress 2 times a day.
5. Altenating application of massaging and compressing especially at the part of the body with pain and exhaused.
